Aaron Donald set to make long-awaited return for Rams on Monday Night Football
It has been two years since Aaron Donald last donned the Ram horns and played under the bright lights of a sold-out SoFi Stadium.
But the wait may finally be over.
On Monday night, the former Defensive Player of the Year is expected to make his highly anticipated return to the field for the first time since 2023. At least, that’s the plan for now.
“That’s the plan,” Donald said when asked about playing against the New York Giants on Monday night. “I’m feeling really good. I’m feeling a lot better now that I got more practice in. Getting in the groove of things… and looking more like myself to me.”
Donald’s return to the lineup could not come at a better time for a Rams team looking to reset after a disappointing Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Australia.
Beyond providing a much-needed spark, Donald’s return would also give the Rams important reinforcements along the defensive front after defensive end Myles Garrett was placed on injured reserve following knee surgery on Monday. Garrett is expected to miss at least the next four weeks, with his timetable for a return currently unknown.
Losing Garrett leaves a significant hole in the Rams’ defense, but Donald’s presence could provide an immediate boost. Even if he is not yet at 100 percent, his experience, leadership, and ability to disrupt opposing offenses could make a difference for a defense searching for answers early in the season.
After two years away from the field, all eyes will be on No. 99 when the Rams take the field Monday night at SoFi Stadium.
And for a team looking to turn the page after Week 1, Donald’s return could be exactly the spark the Rams need.
