The reigning World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers will kick off their 2025 season in Tokyo, Japan, where they will face the Chicago Cubs. After this international matchup, they will return home to open at Dodger Stadium against the Detroit Tigers. With an improved roster this season, the Dodgers are determined to defend their title, featuring some fresh faces, including Japanese pitching star Roki Sasaki.

The Dodgers added Roki Sasaki to their pitching rotation during free agency. The 23-year-old right-hander boasts an impressive fastball and splitter. In his Cactus League debut on March 5th, Sasaki pitched three scoreless innings, recorded five strikeouts, allowed two hits, and issued one walk. The Tokyo Series will serve as a homecoming for Sasaki, who previously played four seasons in Japan. His role in the rotation is still being determined, but his addition significantly strengthens the Dodgers’ pitching depth. Dodgers starter Bobby Miller is eager to bounce back after a challenging 2024 season. Following a line drive that struck him during the Cactus League opener, Miller returned to throw a bullpen session on Sunday. He is determined to secure his position in the highly competitive Dodgers rotation.

Outfielder James Outman is also vying for a starting role. He shined on Sunday against the Athletics, hitting a home run and driving in three runs. Despite the Dodgers' 7-5 loss, Outman performed well enough to earn a spot on the travel roster for Tokyo as he works toward a consistent starting position.

Sunday’s game featured the final Cactus League start for newly signed pitcher Blake Snell. While it is not yet official, Manager Dave Roberts strongly hinted that Snell will start on Opening Day against Detroit. Snell is scheduled to pitch an exhibition game in Tokyo before making his Dodger debut as the team begins its 2025 title defense.
